Got questions about your Kickstarter video? We've got the answers!

1. What experience do you have making crowdfunding videos?

We made our first Kickstarter video in 2014 and haven't stopped since. We've produced over 100 crowdfunding videos for clients from around the world. 8 of those campaigns raised over $1 million USD and the clients we've shot for have a 96% funded rate. Here is a [LINK] to the Kickstarter Trusted Experts list where we've had a spot since 2018.

Prior to founding Launch Light, our founder was the chief videographer for HAX, the world's leading hardware accelerator program. Recently, we were asked to present at the 2023 Crowdfunded Summit which you can view here [HERE].

2. How does a crowdfunding video get made?

Here's a breakdown of our process using our "Tandem Shower" video as an example.

  • Discovery: we started by getting to know Tandem Shower's branding, product pitch, and target audience. Jeff and Brett, its co-founders, also had reference videos they liked, so we watched them together and took note of what they liked and didn't like.
  • Scriptwriting: once we know what to say and who we're saying it to, we come up with a video script. For Tandem Shower, we wrote a script that was laser-targeted at couples who wanted to shower together. We interviewed real-life couples and got their feedback.
  • Planning: script in hand, we sourced all the actors, locations, props, wardrobe, and production crew needed for the shoot. We helped Jeff and Brett choose the actors, as well as find a bathroom location that was within their budget.
  • Filming: With all the prep complete, we filmed the Tandem Shower video over two 10-hour days. We also coached Jeff and Brett through their Founder Story interviews.
  • Editing: Once filming wrapped, we took 8 days to put together a 1st edit for Jeff and Brett to review. We worked with them through 2 rounds of editing revisions before locking in the final version.
  • Post-Launch: Besides the Kickstarter video, we also made Jeff and Brett other assets they could use once their campaign was over. This included an e-commerce version of their video, a link to the raw footage, and shorter edits of their video they could use for social media.

3. How long does this take?

The exact length depends on the complexity of your project, but most of our projects fall somewhere between 7-10 weeks. We do offer rush delivery for an additional fee.

4. Where are you based?

We're based in Duluth, GA (it's near Atlanta).

5. How does filming work if we're not in your city?

Most of our clients ship us their products and we produce the video for them remotely. Some clients will fly us out if they're within the U.S. while others will fly here to direct the shoot themselves.

6. Are there limitations to doing shoots remotely versus hiring someone locally?

Yes. Ideally, you'd be able to hire a video team in your city with the expertise in Kickstarter videos that we have. When possible, it's always better to have the founder on set to help guide the shoot and ensure that the product is being shown to their liking. Having the product team on hand saves us a lot of time learning how to use the product ourselves.

However, most cities don't have a local video team with this kind of specialty. In this case, a remote shoot with us makes sense.

8. Do you have any public reviews?

You can read all our Google Reviews [HERE]. Below is one of our favorites:

9. What services do you offer and how much do they cost?

We offer 3 types of services:
1. Consulting ($75/hr)
2. Done-With-You Videos (Start at $1,450)
3. Done-For-You Videos (Start at $9,450 + Material Costs)

For an in-depth look at our services and pricing, please see our 2024 Capabilities Deck.

10. How do you quote a project?

We quote your project by combining a Base Package with your Material Costs.

A Base Package covers the time we spend writing, shooting, and editing. These are predictable between different projects, so we offer them at a flat price (again, see our 2024 Capabilities Deck).

Material Costs are your actors, locations, props, and wardrobe. These can vary greatly between projects, so we save you money by only putting in what you need.

For a complete quote, please schedule a consultation.

11. But this other agency offers flat-rate pricing for everything included?

If someone offers you a flat rate without knowing anything about your Material Costs, 1 of 3 things is happening:

A) They're new to running a videography business and are willing to eat any unexpected costs themselves. This was us in the early days. You save some money, but the quality of your video will suffer and their business won't last for long.

B) They've padded their margins heavily to buffer against unexpected costs. Large agencies with big profit margins can get away with this, but we don't think this is a good deal for startups.

C) They'll ask for more money once they realize they've underbudgeted. Now you're spending more than you planned for and the project is held up. For these reasons, we always consult with you first before providing a quote.

12. Altogether, how much does an average video cost?

Broadly speaking, our simplest videos cost about $14,000 while our most complex projects cost around $20,000. Most people fall somewhere in the middle.
